Today the percentage of people living in urban areas is greater than ever. The increase in urbanization places pressure on existing infrastructure as well as the natural environment. The dual Master of Science and Master of Urban Planning program uniquely prepares students to tackle the social, economic, and environmental challenges of the 21st century. Graduates have a strong foundation in science and planning skills in order to be successful professionals and leaders in field of urban sustainability.
The dual degree program confers the Master of Science (M.S.) degree from the School for Environment and Sustainability and the Master of Urban Planning (M.U.P.) degree from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning. The program provides students with the analytical skills, theoretical and scientific foundation, and socio-behavioral understanding to become effective practitioners. Potential career fields include, but are not limited to, environmental or land use planning, open space preservation, environmental policy analysis, and environmental justice.
